Soil Health Workshop

Learn how cover crops can improve your garden year-round at the upcoming Cover Cropping for Soil Health workshop. This workshop will focus on small-scale cover cropping in gardens, but is open to anyone interested in building their soil ecosystem. Join for soil demonstrations, soil health discussions, and resources to help implement sustainable practices in your own system. Free seeds will be available to participants.
The Cover Cropping for Soil Health workshop will include information about how cover crops can be used to promote soil health.While it will focus on small-scale cover cropping in small gardens, it is open to anyone interested in building their soil ecosystem. The event will include:
- A presentation on the principles of soil health and their importance
- Soil demonstrations with NRCS’s regional soil health specialist that show the impacts of erosion on healthy vs unhealthy soil (rainfall simulator and slake test)
- What makes a good cover crop?
- Nutritional differences between crops in healthy vs unhealthy soil
- How to access resources to help implement better conservation practices on gardens
- Planting custom seed mix in demonstration plot and distributing seeds to interested people (free seeds!)
