Monitoring season is here!

As stewardship coordinator at the ESLT, one of my responsibilities is to conduct yearly monitoring on all our conservation easements. This is to maintain relationships with landowners and ensure future compliance with conservation easement requirements in order to ensure the preservation of the lands in perpetuity. Monitoring of the Montgomery Creek Ranch was completed recently on June 15. The Education and Outreach Coordinator, Serena, assited me in the monitoring outing, …continue reading

This Tuesday, a Girl Scout troop from San Diego, gathered under the cloudy skies in Crowley Lakes, ready to make a difference. The troop was visiting Mammoth Lakes on their summer vacation, a reward after selling hundreds of boxes of Girl Scout Cookies. As part of their vacation, they wanted to do a service project. As their co-leader Tracy Gastelo said, "We always try to give back wherever we visit." …continue reading

Wildlife Corridor Hike (and some plants too…)

Last Saturday, May 23, about 20 members and interested folks gathered above Swall Meadows for a hike through the the Wheeler Ridge Round Valley mule deer migration corridor led by our executive director Karen Ferrell-Ingram. We toured around the corridor looking at bugs, plants, wildlife, vistas (and thunderclouds!). The location was particularly good for illustrating what a narrow region the many deer and other wildlife must …continue reading

The Flight of the Lady

Painted Lady butterflies have been pouring through our preserved lands in the migration corridor, single-mindedly going north. The waves of fluttering wings are truly impressive and thought-provoking. How do they survive the 60mph gusts of wind we've been having? Check out these links to learn more! For more information, read our "On the Wild Side" article in our Spring 2006 newsletter: the Flight of the Lady. For real time information …continue reading
