In late September Eastern Sierra Land Trust partnered with the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power to clean up areas on the Owens River as a part of the state wide Sierra Nevada Conservancy's Great Sierra River Cleanup. This year, nearly 2,000 volunteers across the state cleaned up about 36,000 lbs. of trash and recycling from rivers throughout the Sierra Nevada. For five years now, ESLT has maintained a successful and ever-growing relationship with the Sierra Nevada AmeriCorps Partnership (SNAP). The SNAP program places twenty-seven AmeriCorps members at different conservation agencies and organizations throughout the Sierra Nevada to conduct watershed restoration and monitoring, watershed education, and volunteer recruitment and support. Continued work on preserving an additional 2383 acres of vital lands in the Eastern Sierra, from high atop the Sweetwater Mountains near Bridgeport down to the shore of Owens Lake. I have just returned from the National Land Conservation Conference in Hartford, Connecticut. The conference was inspiring, rewarding, and eye-opening. As a bonus, I was able to experience the turning of the fall foliage on the East Coast, something everyone should experience at least once in their lives.
