There's something special about the Eastern Sierra: no matter where you stand or in what direction you look, this unique landscape has the ability to inspire. Over the years, ESLT has met many artists living and working on the Eastside who recognize how important it is to preserve our region's fragile wilderness, breathtaking vistas, and rural heritage - forever. These artists immortalize the Eastside's wonders in their timeless works of art; their …continue reading

Tackling our Water Woes, One Drop at a...

Every drop counts. This mantra reverberated through each talk at the Sierra EcoSummit, recently held in Groveland. I went to the EcoSummit curious to hear how the "Westside" was coping with the drought, and to learn what innovative solutions are being proposed. With a lineup of speakers ranging from Dr. Lynn Ingram and Dr. Frances Malamud-Roam - both Earth Science professors at UC Berkeley - to Tom Hicks, a prominent water attorney, …continue reading

Cowboy Scholars Find their Green Thumbs

Walking down the dusty path by the alfalfa fields, we lost a few students. "Gotta fix that sprinkler," one of the boys announced. Another chased after his rambunctious puppy Annie. And yet another (we learned later, he was the designated "cowboy,") tended to some vocal cattle. Our class of 10 dwindled down to a mere 7, but not for long. They had all been engaged during our pollinator lecture that morning in …continue reading

Fall Wildlife Activity

It is officially fall now and the nights are cooling down quickly. Aspen groves are starting to change color and the wildlife are on the move. We recently captured some activity on a conservation easement property located in Swall Meadows, we thought you would all enjoy some of these cool shots. [slideshow] -Aaron

Sierra Nevada red fox

Lately we have really been enjoying sharing wildlife sightings from various conservation projects. One species that we would be pretty lucky to catch on "film" is the Sierra Nevada red fox (Vulpes vulpes necator)a rare native fox that occupies the wild remote corners of the the Eastern Sierra. I have enjoyed the opportunity to learn a little bit more about this neat animal while conducting background research for a few of our …continue reading
