DESCRIPTION:Join Eastern Sierra Land Trust and Blue Heron Farm for a native bee workshop and BioBlitz! You are welcome to join for either parts of the afternoon. \n11:30-12:30 Native Bees! Come learn about the diverse lives of native bees and simple ways to support them in your garden or on the farm. Learn how Blue Heron Farm works to support pollinators. \n12:30-2:30 BioBlitz! Come out to document what is blooming and buzzing on the farm in a participatory science project- City Nature Challenge. Learn how to use iNaturalist with Richard Rachman\, a plant ecologist and volunteer with California Native Plant Society and the Xerces Society. Please come with the iNaturalist  app downloaded on your phone. It is free to download and create a username. \nWhat is a BioBlitz? \nA BioBlitz is a community effort to find and document as many living species as possible in one place. During the BioBlitz at Blue Heron Farm\, we will explore the orchard and wild corners of the farm\, recording the plants\, insects\, birds\, and other life we find. Using the iNaturalist app\, your observations will become part of a global database used by scientists and conservations to track biodiversity. No experience needed. Just curiosity. \nBring your phone\, sense of discovery and come see what is blooming and buzzing on the farm! \nFree event and fantastic for kids!

SUMMARY:World Migratory Bird Day 2026
DESCRIPTION:Come birding with us to celebrate World Migratory Bird Day! Black Lake is a rare desert wetland north of Benton in Adobe Valley that is an important stopover site for migratory birds. The alkali lakes and wetlands in Adobe Valley provide a great environment for our feathered friends to rest and refuel during migration. \nJoin ESLT and the Eastern Sierra Bird Alliance (ESBA) for a morning of birdwatching at a rare sparkling wetland in Adobe Valley – ESLT’s Black Lake Preserve. In honor of World Migratory Bird Day\, we will learn all about the migrating species that visit this lake and those that call it home. All birding levels are welcome\, and kids are encouraged to attend. Binoculars and birding guides provided. More information is coming soon! DESCRIPTION:California Naturalist: Eastern Sierra\n \nSierra Forever and Eastern Sierra Land Trust are thrilled to bring the UC California Naturalist Program to the Eastern Sierra. In this program you will become part of a committed corps of volunteer naturalists and citizen scientists\, equipped with the skills needed to take an active role in local natural resource conservation\, restoration\, and education. Our hybrid online/in-person course combines science instruction with guest speakers\, field trips\, and project-based learning to explore the unique ecology\, geology and natural history of the Eastern Sierra. \nWhether you are interested in a career in the natural sciences or you are just curious about our local surroundings and want to learn more\, this course offers a deeper look into the landscapes and natural systems that define the Eastern Sierra. \nCourse Dates:\n\nWednesdays from 6:00pm-7:30pm\nStart date: September 2\, 2026\nEnd date: October 21\, 2026\nNo class 9/16 and 10/7\n\nCourse Location:\n\nHybrid\, Wednesday classes are held online via Zoom\, field trips are in-person.
